What real LCMS communications look like

• Emails always come from an address ending in @lakecountymedicalsociety.com
• Links in real LCMS emails always go to www.lakecountymedicalsociety.com (and its subpaths). Hover over any link to preview the URL before clicking.
• The LCMS website will only ask you for professional information (NPI, specialty, practice address) and email — never for SSN, DOB, credit card, or bank account.
• ISMA membership dues are paid through ISMA, not through this website. If a message says "pay your LCMS dues here," it's a scam.

Red flags of a scam

• Urgency:"Pay within 24 hours or lose your membership." LCMS never operates on that timeline.
• Unfamiliar payment methods: gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or peer-to-peer payment apps (Venmo, Zelle, Cash App). We do not accept any of these.
• Requests for sensitive data:SSN, DOB, driver's license, bank account, credit card. Even during signup or ID-doc verification, we only ask for a hospital badge or professional license — never SSN or financial info.
• Slightly-wrong URLs: lookalike domains like lakecountymed.com or lcms-society.org. Our only domain is lakecountymedicalsociety.com.
• Emails asking you to "verify" your accountby clicking a link and entering your password on a page you weren't expecting. If in doubt, go directly to www.lakecountymedicalsociety.com and log in there.

If you receive a suspicious message

1. Do not click any links. Do not download any attachments.
2. Do not reply. Replying confirms your email is active and invites more attempts.
3. Forward the suspicious message to LCMS so we can investigate and warn other members: admin@lakecountymedicalsociety.com
4. If you clicked a link and entered your password, change your password immediately at /reset-password and email us so we can watch your account for suspicious activity.
5. If you sent money or shared financial information, contact your bank / card issuer immediately, then report the fraud to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
